Beloved radio, friends, we greet you in the wonderful name of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, the Blessed One who was born in Bethlehem, yet fulfilling the prophecy of our Scripture in Isaiah chapter nine in verse six. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government is upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful. counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace. Five blessed titles are given to the babe that was born in Bethlehem, the babe who was laid in a manger and craved in that stable long ago. At the time the whole world around him was absolutely ignorant of his coming into this world. and they also were ignorant as to who he was. My beloved the prophet Isaiah has written about him, and we have considered the first title. His name is wonderful. Now let us go to the second title. His name is also Counselor. But first of all, permit me to state that all these names are separate titles. Do not combine the name wonderful with the name counselor as being one name. Oh, no. Though he is a wonderful counselor, that is true. But remember, far better than all the people who today may call themselves counselor, but is a separate meaning as to his name being wonderful. And now we consider the title counselor. There is a prophecy in Isaiah in chapter eleven, which foretold our Savior's birth, stating of him in chapter eleven of Isaiah's book, There shall come forth a shoot out of the stock of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots shall be fruitful, and the Spirit of Jehovah shall rest upon him. And note the next words. The spirit of wisdom. The spirit of understanding. The spirit of counsel and might. The spirit of knowledge. Isaiah chapter eleven verses one and two. Closing with the statement. And the fear of Jehovah. Is a prophetic word. For telling him in all the wisdom that was his. Who would come. And what he was. one who had the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, and the spirit of knowledge and the fear of Jehovah in his heart. Now what is a counselor? Is not a counselor one who speaks? Does not he use words in order to help those who are seeking his counsel and guidance? When our Lord menaces upon the earth, One great manner in which he sought to reveal himself, and to reveal God his Father, was by the words that he spoke. My beloved, may I suggest to you, honor, sacredly, honor the words that you read in your Bible, in Matthew, Mark, and Luke, and John, the words of our Lord Jesus when he spoke upon the earth. You may remember that the very first recorded words are recorded about him when he was twelve years of age, when he spoke to Mary his mother and Joseph, the husband of Mary, when they had sought him for three days before finding him and rebuked him. To them he said, Wish ye not that I must be about my father's business. Now if you read that account in Luke's Gospel chapter two, You may have noticed that upon that statement being made, the record gives the words that his mother kept all these sayings, the words that he had spoken, she kept them in her heart. Who of us can tell the many words that Mary must have kept in her heart, which came from the blessed Son of God, the one she had brought into this world by human birth? but the very first sermon that the Lord Jesus ever preached in his hometown of Nazareth, recorded in Luke chapter four. We'll read of that occasion when thus he had spoken to the audience. They all bear in witness and wondered at the gracious words that proceeded out of his mouth. Luke four, verse twenty-two. You can read those words. You can read the whole sermon that he gave them. Marvelous words, revealing that he had come to bless them, though they rejected him and sought even on that occasion to kill him. But his words, they have to say of those words, they marveled and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And do you also remember? when the soldiers were sent by the chief priests and the Pharisees on a later occasion, commanded to bring Jesus a prisoner, they came back without him, and as they returned and were questioned why they came without him. Their answer was this. They had listened to his words, and they confessed, Never man spake like this man. John chapter seven in verse forty-six. My beloved radio friend, I commend to you to listen, to pay your attention in your Gospels, not only there but through the whole word of God, but especially in your Gospels, to the spoken words of the Lord Jesus. My beloved, have you read Matthew's Gospel? Have you read Mark's Gospel? Have you read Luke's Gospel? John's Gospel? And have you digested the words of our Lord Jesus Christ? As we have read in Isaiah, they were words of wisdom, of understanding, of counsel, of might, and of knowledge, according to the prophecy. Now, beloved, what does this convey to us? Regarding this title, Counselor. Now let's take the implication of its meaning from our text. For in our text of Isaiah chapter nine in verse six, we read that the government shall be upon his shoulder in the day of his kingdom. Now listen, this blessed son of God who was born in the stable and cradled in the manger is yet to be the king over all the earth. You can read those words in Zechariah, fourteen in verse nine. He shall be king over all the earth. And the words that were spoken by Gabriel to Mary before his birth will be fulfilled. When Gabriel said to her, He shall be great and shall be called the son of the highest, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father, David. And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever. and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Luke chapter one, verse thirty-two and thirty-three. Now, my beloved, let me raise the question. Will the Christ, the Messiah of Israel, the king of all the earth? When he reigns, will he need a board of counselors to help him? Never. The government, its authority, its power, and its execution will be upon his shoulder. He will not need what we have today, men who assist the rulers in counseling them. No, the government will be upon his shoulders when he governs the whole world. Let me read the words of his ability in Isaiah chapter forty. Please listen to these words. Listen to the inspired words. Isaiah chapter forty saying, Who hath directed the Spirit of Jehovah? Who is his counselor? Who hath taught him? Can any man teach the Son of God the King of Israel? Never. With whom took he counsels, writes the prophet. Who gave him intelligence? Who instructed him in the path of judgment? Who taught him knowledge? Who should give him the way of understanding? Read Isaiah forty in verse thirteen and fourteen. His name is counselor. Please let me say, he'll be the whole government in his authority. He will be the most autocratic ruler that the world will have ever seen. And his monarch through the kingdom for one thousand years. And the administration of his government will be personally under and in his control and his alone. Listen to the prophetic words of Isaiah thirty-three. I read verse twenty-four. Listen to them. In that day the people will be saying of him. And listen to the language. The Lord is our judge. The Lord is our lawgiver. The Lord is our king. He will save us. Please notice. The judicial branch of his government will be in his personal hands. The legislative branch will not be Senate and Congressman, but will be in its control alone, and the executive branch of the government. He will be the center of it in control, the king. Now, my beloved friend, I want you to do something. Take a look with me. Think of that babe in Bethlehem's manger. His name is not only wonderful, but also counselor. Are you acquainted with him? Do you only view him as a babe in the manger? Well, that happened two thousand years ago when he came to the earth by virgin birth. But we are on the threshold of his coming again when he will be king of kings and lord of lords. When he comes back to take the world government and it will be on his shoulder. In that day, none will be needed to support him. No counselors, no assistants, no cabinets. to assist him in his government. He will write the laws. He will be the judge. He will reign. My beloved friend, I'd like to ask you a question. Do you know him? Do you know this one? He was born at Bethlehem to take a body of humanity to be your Savior and to die for your sins. Someday he's going to be the king over all the earth in that same body. But today he offers to save you because in that body he died on the cross for your sins. And if you refuse him as your Savior, you must, and you will meet him in that coming day as your judge. But as a counselor today, he would say, why do you not believe upon me? Don't wait to meet me as my judge. Then it will be too late. And he counseled you today. Be saved today by coming to him. Oh, blessed Father, by the Holy Spirit, sanctify, bless, and prosper the truth to save some precious souls in Jesus' name. Amen.
