A cheery good morning to all of you. Time again for moments of melody. Years ago an ambitious young man applied to John Wanamaker for a job in one of his stores in Philadelphia. When told there was no opening, he said, I'm willing to do anything. Thinking to get rid of him, Mr. Wanamaker replied, "'Well, the only job I have is one of washing windows.' "'I'll take it,' exclaimed the young man quickly. Wanting to get started immediately, he was given the needed equipment and washed those windows so that they shone as never before. Ambitious, thoughtful, and highly reliable. In time he became the manager of that great store. When the man died after twenty-five years of splendid service, Mr. Wanamaker said, I would be willing to pay a hundred thousand dollars a year for a manager who could begin to fill his place. Surely this is the caliber of people the Lord needs in his work. People willing to work, willing to do any task for the master. There's never an oversupply of this kind of worker. Just a closer walk with thee. Grant it, Jesus, if you please. Daily walking close to thee. Let it be. Dear Lord, let it be. I am weak, but thou art strong. Jesus, keep me from all wrong. I'll be satisfied as long as I walk. Let me walk close to thee. When my feeble life is o'er Times for me won't be no more lead me safely, gently oar to thy kingdom shore, Lord, to thy shore. And now we're going to open the Word of God to the Gospel according to St. Mark chapter thirteen. The Lord Jesus continues to prepare the disciples for the future. He said, But as for that day and that hour you speak of, they are known to nobody, not even to the angels in heaven, not even to the Son. Only the Father knows them. Look well to it. Watch and pray. You do not know when the time is to come. It is as if a man going on his travels had left his house entrusting authority to his servants, each of them to do his own work and enjoining the doorkeeper to watch. Be on the watch then, since you do not know when the master of the house is coming, at twilight, at midnight, or cock-crow or dawn. If not, he may come suddenly and find you asleep. And what I say to you, I say to all, watch. This is a good word for us today. Watch. We need to walk close to the Lord day by day and be willing to do what He wants us to do each day and then continue to watch for His return.
