Good morning, everyone. A very cordial welcome to Moments of Melody, five minutes of pearls and parables to help you begin your day. Abraham Lincoln once made this statement, I am profitably engaged in reading the Bible. He found profit as a president in reading the Bible. You know, the Bible has a message for everyone. You'll find it profitable to read and to study this great book. So we encourage you to be with us each morning on moments of melody as we read the Bible together. Far away in the depths of my spirit to-night, Roll the melody, sweet urban song. Incelerate, like strangers unseatingly found For my soul, like a mistletoe. Wonderful peace, coming down from the fire of hope. We bother my spirit forever. Here are a few verses from the sacred scriptures to help you begin your day. We're reading from the translation of Monsignor Ronald Knox. This translation has the imprimatur of Francis Cardinal Spellman. We begin today with the Gospel according to St. John chapter one and verse fourteen. And the word was made flesh and came to dwell among us. We had sight of his glory, glory such as belongs to the Father's only begotten Son, full of grace and truth. We have John's witness to him. I told you, cried John, there was one coming after me who takes rank before me. He was when I was not. We have all received something out of his abundance, grace answering to grace. Through Moses the law was given to us, through Jesus Christ, grace came to us in truth. No man has ever seen God, but now his only begotten Son, who abides in the bosom of the Father, has himself brought us a clear message. This then was the testimony which John bore, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? He admitted the truth without concealment, admitted that he was not the Christ. What then they asked him, Aren't thou Elias? Not Elias, he said. Aren't thou the prophet? He answered, No. So they said, Tell us who thou art, that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What account dost thou give of thyself? And he told them, I am what the prophet Isaiah spoke of, the voice of one crying in the wilderness, straighten out the way of the Lord. You've been listening to Moments of Melody.
