Morning, friend. Moments of Melody Time. Five-minute capsule to help you begin your day. When W.P. McKay, years ago left home for college, his mother gave him a Bible. On the fly leaf, she wrote both his and her names and a Bible verse. The young Scotchman became a physician, having been a brilliant student in the medical school that he attended. In time he became head of the largest hospital in Edinburgh, Scotland. His success in medicine and surgery was equalled only by his wickedness as an infidel. He was elected president of the Society of Atheists in the capital, Scotland, and consistently went far in sinful living. Into his hospital one day was carried a man who had been fearfully injured. As Dr. McKay looked at the pitifully crushed body, he was amazed to note a peace and ardence in the young victim's face. The desperately wounded man put this question to the surgeon, Just what is my condition? I want to know the truth. You have at the most the three hours of life was replied. The brightness of the face of the one who would soon be in eternity did not dim at the news. He asked, will you please send it once to my landlady and request her to send me the book? What book? questioned McKay. Oh, just ask her for the book. She'll know. The doctor made arrangement for it to be brought and went to the other patients in the great hospital. But some words the dying man had said came repeatedly to his mind. They were, I am ready. I am going to be with the Lord Jesus Christ. A few hours later Dr. McKay was back in the ward where the injured man had been taken. The doctor asked the nurse in charge about him, and she replied, he died just a few minutes ago. The doctor put another question. Did he get the book in time? Yes, not long before he passed away. Is it his bank book? No. No, he died with it under his pillow. It's still there. Go look at it. The physician stood beside the bed. He reached under the pillow and drew out a Bible. And he opened it. there in his mother's handwriting was her name, his own and the scripture verse. It was the very book that he had received from her years ago as he was leaving college, and long before on a drunken spree he had pawned it to obtain money for more liquor. Overwhelmed by the tremendous memories, he hurried down to his private office and fell on his knees and prayed to his mother's God for mercy on his soul. The petition was heard. The blind eyes were opened on a new world. The old things passed away. He became a new creation in Christ. And McKay, the physician, became a minister of God. And as a preacher, he turned many to righteousness. He also wrote a little book that was the means of many finding Christ as the Savior of their souls. The Bible his mother gave him truly proved to be divine dynamite unto his salvation. even though after many days. Now let's read from the sacred scriptures. It was the Sabbath day on which the Lord Jesus was asked to take a meal with one of the chief Pharisees. As he went into the house, they were watching him. Here his eye was met by the sight of a man who had the dropsy, Jesus asked the lawyers and Pharisees openly, Is healing allowed on the Sabbath day? Then, as they did not answer, he took the man by the hand and sent him away, healed. And he turned on them and said, Is there any one of you who will not pull his ass or his ox out immediately if he falls into a pit on the Sabbath? To this they could make no answer.
