Moments of Melody, program with a song for your heart. Here's a little article titled, Why? Why did Jay Gould, the American millionaire, exclaim with his dying breath I'm the most miserable devil in the world, because money has not the power to satisfy the cravings of the heart. He who barters his soul for wealth makes a sorry bargain. Why? Why did Alexander the Great, when the whole known world lay at his feet, weep with chagrin over the fact that there was no more territory to conquer? Because success and gratified ambition can never afford real and lasting satisfaction. Why? Why did Lord Byron, with the laurels of fame upon his brow, utter a whine of despair before he died? Because poetic genius and popularity are powerless to minister to the soul that which it most needs. Why? Why did a well-known professor of religion turn to and fro upon his dying bed crying, I'm going to hell, I'm going to hell? Because he realized at last that religion Without a personal knowledge of Jesus Christ, the Savior is worse than useless. It may win the regard of our fellow men, but in the hour when we reach the borderline of eternity it appears in its true character a hollow sham. Profession of Christianity is vain if it does not possess Christ. Why? Why, my friend, do you not seek the acquaintance of Christ, and be both saved and satisfied and sure of heaven? Christ is the willing Savior of all who put their trust in him. As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, which were born of God. Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Ye must be born again. And now the Gospel according to Dr. Luke. You are the men who have kept by my side in my hours of trial. And as my father has allotted a kingdom to me, So I allot to you a place to eat and drink at my table in my kingdom. You shall sit on twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has claimed power over you all, so that he can sift you like wheat. But I have prayed for thee that thy faith may not fail. When, after a while, thou hast come back to me, it is for thee to be the support of thy brethren. Lord said he, I am ready to bear thee company though it were to prison or to death. But he answered, I tell thee, Peter, like cock-crow this morning, thou wilt thrice have denied knowledge of me. And then he said to them, Did you go in want of anything when I sent you out without purse or wallet or shoes? They told him nothing. And he said, By now it is time for a man to take his purse with him if he has one, and his wallet too. and sell his cloak and buy a sword if he has none. Believe me, one word has been written that has yet to find its fulfillment in it. He was counted among the malefactors. Sure enough, all that had been written of me must be fulfilled. See, Lord, they told him, here are two swords. He said to them, that is enough. Thank you.
