We'll be turning in our Bibles to John chapter eight. John chapter eight. And verse one. Jesus went unto the Mount of Olives and early in the morning he came again to the temple and all the people came unto him and he sat down and taught them. The scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in the docile way. When they had supper in the midst, they say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in the docile in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us that stuff should be shown, but what say is thou? Just they said, tempting him that they mightest have and to accuse him. They might have to accuse him. But Jesus stood down and with his finger wrote on the ground as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast the stone of her. And again he stood down and wrote on the ground. The very rich heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last, and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up himself and saw none but the woman, she said unto her, woman, Where are those thine achievers, hath no man condemned me? She said, No man, Lord and he must sit unto her neither do I condemn thee go and sin no more you're noticing in chapter seven how infuriated the tribes and Pharisees were they wanted to kill the Lord Jesus take them to be so at the feet but their plot failed Evidently after the beast closed and these men got together and realized that they hadn't accomplished their desire to kill the Lord Jesus, they likely spent that night plotting something. But I believe what we've been reading was a plot. You'll notice some things relative to this intimate. You'll notice how in verse... of the previous chapter, and every man went on to his own home. That's a tragic thing. They left and went to their own home, leaving the Lord Jesus behind. They went without him. Sad, king, a lot of people do that. For a meeting of this time, they'll go home without him. They don't know the answer. Some leave this world without him. They don't have to. But the Lord Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. He went later when he spreaded it where a great drop of blood falling down to the ground, when he went into the garden and that awful cup was placed in his hand by the Father, the soft strings of the cross. And the Lord Jesus, in agony in the garden, he tried out to his father that if it be possible, let this cup pass for me, nevertheless, not my will but thine be done. That was on a later occasion, but here again he makes reports to the Mount of Olives. He had been spending the night evidently in prayer, and the next morning he went into the temple. You'll notice he had a Bible reading. It must have been a wonderful Bible reading because a lot of people were there hungry. It tells you in verse two and early in the morning... He came again into the temple and all the people came unto him and he sat down and talked to him. What a wonderful Bible reading that must have been. The Son of God is the teacher and there's a great quality drink there to hear. Would to God we had people that hungry today very early in the morning. They only heard he'd be there and so they were there. What it came for was to hear the Lord Jesus expound the word of God. But all of a sudden, Jeremy, he was interrupted, as you have in verse three, and the scribes and parishes brought unto him a woman taken in adultery, when they had sent them into the scepterer in the midst. They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery in the very act. Kind of a sad situation. They wanted to have this woman condemned because it was a trap to try and catch the Lord Jesus. And to the sake of these men, knowing that the Lord was teaching, at least he might have been teaching in the Old Testament what they claim to believe. They seem to have no reverence For this occasion, and it was in the temple, I know honest Jew would want to bring an unclean person into the temple, but their conscience was so cheered and callous, they apprehended this woman and had brought her into the temple right in the midst of a Bible reading. What in fact they did prove they were wrong. They heavenly had been flaring this thing. of a good gift in Pompers. We know not whether they had engaged a man to be involved in this just in order to catch the Lord deep and to have this woman brought in. The evidence was there. They were caught in the very act. These men were so mad the day before because they couldn't kill the Lord Jesus and speak to anybody, and they speak to this plot. One wonders about this woman. One knows not what about her. Since there were falls somewhere in the unrevealed past where Father Word of God is confirmed, she lost her grip. on every completion. Perhaps he was born in the slums like many are today. Where mortals are cheap, anything goes. Nevertheless, there was an untimely combination of circumstances united to ruin her virtue. A woman of the street. lead to the darkness to break the heart of God. She will have to be her heart. But only if she breaks the heart of God, because God had written with his finger on a table of stone, thou shalt not permit adultery. And in this day of leniency, even lasting a purity and vital standard, You dare it stand to be saved in eternity, written with the finger of God, thou shalt not commit adultery. For this woman stands there. Maybe she came from another kind of home. Maybe a religious home. Not only breaking the heart of God, but breaking the heart of a mother. and the Father in any such that are in the world today. Hearing off all religion is faith. And the faith shall come into the faith of this pure and godly world. That is her fall. Why will God be telling us that that background over in this day, she is rushed into this picture, rushed into the picture in verse three. likely she had to you. Quite likely it was the Romans who arrested her, whether a policeman or a soldier, because the Jews did not have the authority to arrest anyone who not died. The Romans were under control, incendiary, and no Jew would have taken this responsibility upon himself without trusting the prizes at the hands of the Roman Gentile. So somehow these men obtained some man to be involved and had him arrested there. In fact, they didn't arrest him. They were instructed that the woman, and whether he was a soldier or a policeman, he arrested the woman. That during the case, the poor way, remained at all. But this woman's arrested today. Did she hear them during the night? talking about stoning her to death, but that's what they wanted her to be. She was stoned with her. What fears must have been in this woman's heart? She was thrust into the midst of an audience, and for the first time in her life, she faced a new judge. For the teacher of that Bible class was a judge of the universe. And here this woman, is tossed in through this Bible study, and there standing in the midst of that group is a man alike of which he had never seen before. He's a teacher, and it has changed him. It's right at that moment he became her judge because he was asked to question. Moses in the law on these sides of Pharisees are asked in the question of Christ. Moses in the law says that God should be sown, this woman should be sown, but what do you say? They're going to try and pass the Lord Jesus. What do you say? It's true that he was given. He was under the curse of the Old Testament. He declares that he ever breaks the law is under the curse of the law. So this woman was under the curse of the law she had broken up. So she was guilty. So many today, they belittle these standards. They laugh at them. Are the Jews media becoming more corrupt than teachers by the hour, playing down morality and virtue, playing up all kinds of indecency? So many today are engaged with this kind of business. They don't believe the Old Testament. They don't even believe the news of it. Yet this book is going to judge them in the last days. Written with a finger was drawn. Now it's just not only the rest of it as well as the others. I remember a teacher one time who went in to his tea shop. The reason he went in was to invite the owner of that tea shop becomes a church. And when they did, the man in charge of the tea shop said, No, he said, I'm not coming out to hear you preach the Ten Commandments. Why, said they're out of date. I'm not going to come and hear you preach in Old Testament or in New. Furthermore, he says, critics have proven that the Bible has no authority. The preacher says, good. I'm glad to hear that. He says, I don't want a pair of cheese. And here's a pair of just my size. And he says, I'm going to do it. And he starts to leave the store and the owner says, hey, you see, don't take those cheese. He says, why not? He says, the Bible is not true. It says, thou shalt not steal. There's no authority in it. So why not? I'll just take the cheese of that. He says, do not. The Bible, the good book, says thou shalt not steal. the truth on the other footpath. Yes, at first he says the Bible is not true. No, for nothing but attention. And when a prayer he's being stolen from, he wants to stand behind the old book. Yes, just like people today, they pray down the Bible now, but there are times in life when we come back to the old book. And it is a final, Mr. Lovett. What on this about this lady, was she bluffing or was she too hard to bluff? I wonder what she saw in her eyes. It may reflect differently. It's part of what had happened. And if she looked at this man, she likely expected he would endorse the verdict, sent him for death by children. Instead of that, he didn't reply to those scribes and Pharisees. He stooped down and he wrote on the ground. What a silence. What must have that poor woman thought? She was expecting this man to look at her with eyes of steel and pronounce it just by stone. that he ignored what those men said. He peaked down and he wrote something on the ground. To begin with, the law should be fulfilled by doing, not by saying. He peaked down and he wrote on the ground. I wonder what he wrote. That has been the question of cost dollars over the centuries since it was written. What did he write? One wonder, should he have written a text that's found in the Old Testament that these men use? And here you'll find it in Deuteronomy twenty-two, twenty-two. If a man be found lying with a woman married to another man, then they shall both of them die. vote the man that lay with the woman, and the woman so shalt thou put away evil from Asia. What they said was only a half-feel. They despotted the woman in the history of the Bible says both. Why didn't they bring the man? Did the Lord Jesus write that text on the ground? So those men could see they were telling a half-suit or demanding a half-suit. And why didn't they bring the man? He was a cop. Yes. But it didn't work. How to market it. Lord Jesus, he ignored their statement, he sat down and he wrote something on the ground. They must have seen it. Like Lennard's letters, did he write down some of the secrets of their heart? For he knew the hearts of all men. Do you need that group to condemn this woman? He knew some things in their life. Did he write them on the ground? Then the Lord is Let's see his answer in verse seven from our text. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast the stone. David waited. And this is what he said. All right. Do you want this woman condemned? Do you want me to condemn her? And the Lord does say she should be condemned, but it also says the man should be condemned, too. Now the one of you, the which one, when it is without sin, ye cast the first stone. For that was the principle of the Old Testament. The witnesses had to cast the stone as the person who's guilty. Not only witnesses, but to throw the stone. The Lord said, all right, any one of you who is innocent, you're without sin, pick up the first stone and pass the beginning. What a silence. What happened? It was lost in verse nine. It was eight, and again he stooped down and wrote in the ground, and they were told, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the elder, for he had the most sins he lived the longest, Beginning of the elders, even unto the last, and Jesus is left alone on the woman's family of women. My, his ministry proclaimed in this, his very presence as well as his words convicted. There were those men in an indicted mood. They came in with this woman, and they wanted her soul to death. contrary to the full law, which meant the man should have been brought into. And when the Lord went on the ground, they likely read that. And then he says, the one who was without sin, he passed the first dose. They couldn't take that. Not one of them was without sin. And so they began at the hour. And I suppose all the younger brethren, their eyes were on the oldest one. Was he higher up in the ladder of ecclesiastical authority? Was he the bishop? And then he and I were all streets outside, guilty and condemned. Their thing was worse than hers. Hers was bad enough, and she was condemned. Their sin was ten times worse for they rejected the Son of God. And the worst sin in the world today is rejecting Jesus Christ. Your life may be as soon as a living and he may be sincere and honest and upright. But if you reject Jesus Christ, you will be lost forever. That's the worst sin. thing in the universe. They were more sinful than you. For many like her have repented and come to Christ. The Lord Jesus said this to the same crowd of Pharisees and priests. He says, Woe be unto you, you hypocrite. He says the publicans and the harlot into the kingdom of heaven before you. In other words, sinners acknowledge their sinners and they confess their loss and deserve judgment and they talk the favor. He hoped they're so religious and so tired. Paul was condemning someone else and you're rejecting eternal truth. When you're rejecting Jesus Christ and trying to find fault with him, you're rejecting eternal truth. And he says, I am the way, the peace, and the light. No man cometh unto the father but by whom they were more wicked than the type of God than this woman. And so they went out. In the loveless, the judge became a friend. She must have made it. What relief must have come over her when she saw those men, her accusers, meet up. There she stands in the presence of this man. Now he speaks to her. What do he say to this woman? Notice in verse ten, when Jesus had lifted himself up and saw none but the woman who stood unto her, woman, thread our gold by an appeal, have no man condemned me? He said no man more. Then those amazing words, neither do I condemn me, gold, and sin no more. I don't think you men don't ever sin again. No person outside of Christ will ever do that in this world. There's a very part of foolishness of sin. whatsoever not of faithless things. Even born again, Christians do say things and think things, and maybe sometimes do things that are things. But if they're washed in the blood of Christ, they may leave their fellowship with the Lord with time. They don't leave their relationship. A husband and wife may have little differences, but it doesn't sever their relationship, man and husband. At time they differ their parents and give the parents that it doesn't sever their relationship far with his son. When we're born again, we're in great relationship with God, that can never be severed. Although we can lose fellowship, if we do things of disbelief, I believe what he meant here was, woman, neither do I condemn the go and sin no more. Don't do that thing again. That was something that drove me down. How wonderful the saints saw this woman. One wonders how long she looked at the Lord and between the long that she looked at him lights began to dawn upon her city. She was just a bit of a man. Something about him that never seemed before good. high merciless. And when he said, use of the wise and then he would go and sing no more for his two years' family. A new woman, she emerged out of the bathroom, as long had been in her heart. Now she felt pleased, happy, pleased. because that God said, Amen. I'm not going to condemn you. You need to do I condemn you. Glory and in the Lord. Why did he say that? Because he used one word. No man, Lord. Notice that. At the beginning of verse eleven, he said, No man, Lord. These other men called them not, sir. But he didn't. call them Lord. And that means that it means he had accepted this man as a Lord. And no man can call Jesus Lord except by the Holy Spirit. That is to really call them Lord. Some people take the Lord's name in vain and God will not hold them guiltless to take his name in vain. beds don't give light they don't take seriously of his name it's just a farewell so when this woman said more than maybe she had called his name in vain before she found him in her unclean life but now tempted and happened he called him more she is my lord yes And he said this morning, he's my Lord. He's my Lord. Neither do I condemn him. He never would have said it. I have seen not all of him in the Lord. I've seen him have taken place in this woman's house. This is her forgiveness. All the faithful former days gone. Now she had a new master. Neither do I condemn. She didn't condone her sin. He didn't wink at it. It was wrong. For the Lord to have thrust aside her sins, he ignored it, as he made light of it, or winked at it, would have been contrary to divine doctrine and righteousness. His God has got the punishment. And he's true Christ. After the second speech he says, neither do I condemn thee. Go and send them off. The first mighty soup for the Son of God was when he became incarnate, a soup from heaven to earth. And just for him's name do you see the incarnate Son of God? The second speech, when he speaks of the depths and darkness of the cross, After he suffered, bled and died, and picked that second gift. He says, deliver the wise in your name. Go and send me. You know this man this morning and your Lord. He said, Good Lord this morning, with the joy of him forgiven. No condemnation. I want to say this, as a Christian, you come to know him, you're going to make a different life. You became a new teacher in Christ Jesus that day. And little groups of tourists turned up at the entrance of a mine. They were going to be taken down into that mine, a coal mine, by a guide. One of the parties turned up in a lovely white dress. The rest of the party said, What the word, you're wearing a white dress. You're down the corner. You can't get down there in a white dress. You're supposed to be a curiously man. He's going to take an ugly... Can I wear my white dress down there? Ladies, he certainly can. It's about what you want to do, but you're out here you want to. There are a lot of things down there that prevent you from bringing a white dress out. And you're a Christian, and you ask me come to know Christ, if you go into some of the dens of this too wicked world, some of the dark spots, you'll soar your soul and you'll soar your character. Sailing from those places, you'll soar your character and soar your soul and soar your song and silence your self. He says, go and sit down. Don't go back to your old days. Live a new life. And when he said that, did he implore this much, I'll be your new life. I know you didn't, but I'll be your new life. And so will that if you will accept the Lord Jesus, he'll be your new life. You know, it's very remarkable. In John, you have three fallen women. And I'm not putting the blame on the women. Men are just as guilty. So often the men get by when the women's justice take the rap for the rest of their life. But look at the case of John for the woman that's aware of she had seven husbands. But she got saved. The Lord saved. He may be known to her that he should be paid, that were he so ever, he for the things of the water that I have forgiven. Oh, yes. In other words, no reprobation. No one has received or abandoned because of wickedness. You can find it. The Lord Jesus said to all, really, Jesus, man. No reprobation in John four, without will. This woman in John eight. No condemnation. No condemnation. There is therefore no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus. You read Romans verse one. And in John five twenty four, verily, verily, I say unto you, Be that here is my word and believeth on him that sent me past everlasting life and shall not come into condemnation. It is past and death and life. Why will I not come into condemnation? that the Lord Jesus took my condemnation at the cross, and not send me the condemnation. You're up to second woman. The third one's Mary Magdalene. No preparation. The one in chapter four, no preparation. You're not in Jesus. This one in chapter eight, no condemnation your death can take. Mary Magdalene, no preparation. Christ said to Mary, you are the Lord of Paul and Mary. I ascend to my Father, to your Father, Mary, to my God, your God. He will be your Father as long as he is my God. He will be your God as long as he is my God. There is no jeopardy. And I'll ask you, verses of the Roman dates, we'll amplify that. How wonderful we see women, though reparation will never turn you away, we want to be saved. No condemnation and no trepidation. Do you accept this one this morning, the Lord Jesus, and accept the miserably? We turn us not away, none away. Our man went into a town many years ago. at the turn of the century, and he went into this hotel, the biggest hotel in town, and he toddled across it and said, give me a room. The man looked at him and he said, no, I'll not give you a room. He said, what do you mean? He said, the time was when I was left in this town by a brown band and given the best suit in this hotel. Yes, he said, the coach said, you must be free, man. That's when you're good, but I know you, and you don't know you and the Muslims there. And would the fraud, the hotels and the motels, they're not careful to wait. That man was refused a room in that hotel. As wicked as he must have been, had that man repented and turned to Christ the Lord, would have given him not only a room in the hotel, he would have given him a place in heaven. He turned it away none. Whose or other way may come, the blood of Christ is little enough to put away that God is free. A wondrous God's wondrous service. What a case of grace on this. A sinful woman smearing cynic, a sympathetic being. Same times in your body, you read about the things of God, the thing that is God in the law. God's finger wrote the Ten Commandments on two pages of stone, here's the thing that is great, right, writing on the ground after which this woman was raised. Then there's the thing that is judgment in Daniel chapter five. And here's the thing thou shalt have not taken to his feet. Because you're in the height of the party. There was a finger of a man's hand writing on the wall. Me, me, me, teach of your father things. Daniel says to me, do you know what that means? God has numbered. God weighed in the balances and are found wanting. And God has numbered by years and days and times. That night without chastisement, the king of the Chaldean city. a thing that is God himself. God's thing that is found in these three inches. What a trophy of grace is, dear woman, why? You can be a trophy of grace. A burden of one time, a name of birth. He was saved on the day our movie. He'd been a rough character. His thin blurred face kept him from getting a job. And after a year or two, The third sent for this guy. And he went. Oh, he thought the sheriff uncovered him. The time I'd come in, forgot him. But as he walked into the sheriff's office, the sheriff said, Bert, have you still got a grip for what religion you got? He said, sir, yes, but he said, I still have my faith in Christ. The church says, Brother, I've had a man that's hadding you ever since you married Dr. Hicks. He says, you're a man that's thoughtful, temperal, or you went the wrong way. He says, I'm going to make you my deputy. He says, you've gone sick. He's shown that there's a real change in your life. See, I'll need to set by the church office one day. And he saw this fellow broke, sitting in the office with fifty thousand dollars worth of gems. And as he looked up the real media, the man he was saved here. He burst into tears. He says the first is the one who received these gems. And he said he left a while ago, he says, you stand guard over these things that I did not. And he burst into tears as Moody walked in to state that he was not the king's man that searched would leave him in fire the six thousand days down at his age. Moody says, Isn't it marvelous what the grace of God can be for one? Yes, it is. But God dates and decedent to these leaders. You're Lewis News this morning. You're not a born-again Christian. You have entrusted Christ to your Savior. You're a worshipper not anymore. And make no mistake about it. Lead me to repent, acknowledge your sin before God, and take Christ into your heart. Lead me at the top of the pole at the bottom. It makes no difference. All have sinned and come forth to the glory of God. Christ died for your sins on the cross. We want to see you this morning. And say to you, he said to this woman, neither do I condemn you. No. And sin no more. Live a different life. See a new creature. As you be a happy man, you'll have a happier home. But if you don't believe it, try it. Thank you. Our Father in heaven, in the name of our Lord Jesus, we commend for thy presence. We ask thy blessing on thy days. We thank thee for our Savior. We know what he can do. We know Father, his Father, is saved in our own lives. We've seen it in others. And we pray that some of you this morning will experience God's saving power. and trust Christ in Christ in today. We ask that in the Lord Jesus Christ we may. Amen. Shall we sing and close this? Six hundred and thirty. The steward Hamlin's remarkable hymn that he penned after he was praised at Billy James' meetings right in California. He wrote that hymn, there is no secret what God can do, what He's done for others. He can do for you, and that's true. The three, I just thought of it from going through the hymn book. The three women that I've been speaking about have been able to get their hands on this hymn book. I wonder what hymn David has collected. I believe David has collected six hundred and thirty. I believe that's the hymn they would select. And seeing its thanksgiving in a few days, our wonderful hymn, Thank you, Lord, for saving my soul. Thank you, Lord, for making me whole. Thank you, Lord, for giving to me thy great salvation. So do they. They do. Indeed. like to see God as Lord in the moment you got through. And sing it with all your heart. The rock is there in its simplicity, reverent majesty. That is down in singing. Thank you, Lord, for saving my soul. Thank you, Lord, for making me whole. Thank you, Lord, for giving me. My thanks, salvation, for living and me. We're going to sing it through again because it's only the one verse. You have accepted Christ in this meeting. You want to tell us? Come that you've seen this thing. Maybe you haven't talked to him yet. Please go and come up and express your gratitude in your heart by singing this thing and putting your confession into your teeth. You haven't been able to talk to him. God is here. Thank you, Lord, for singing my soul. Thank you, Lord, for making me whole. Thank you, Lord, for giving me to me. I make salvation so little and clear. Well, we have a little lost inside. We'll be here tonight. Thank you.
